History of the Glen Rose Fire Department
Our department was established in 1979 by a group of dedicated people who saw the need for organized fire protection. These hard working people started from scratch with nothing to build from. Our first piece of apparatus were surplus vehicles obtained from the Arkansas Forestry Commission. While the equipment left a lot to be desired, there hearts and hard work carried them forward.
Through the years our department has continued to evolve and grow to meet the needs of the increasing population in our district. the names of those who have helped make us what we are today are to numerous to try and mention. we simply extend our thanks and appreciation to them all.
In 1999 we formed a fire district. We were the first in our county to do so and at present date we are still the only one. Since the formation of our district we have been able to take what our founding fathers started another step forward. With the added revenue since then we have added (2) two new engines, (1) one brush truck, (2) two rescue units, (1) one new tanker, and replaced an aging tanker and a aging service truck. In addition to apparatus we have been able to add major additions to our department.
We are also very proud of our Thermal Imaging Camera purchased through a charitable donation to our department. At the time we put the Thermal Imaging Camera in service we were the FIRST volunteer department in Arkansas to have Thermal Imaging capabilities. As far as we know we are still the only volunteer department in Arkansas with Thermal Imaging.
As of August 2001 our I.S.O. ratings were lowered from class 9 to a class 6/9. This was accomplished through countless hours of hard work. We are continuing our progress and are working to further lower our I.S.O. ratings.
